Si3 – Social Impact Investment in Israel

Si3 (Social Impact Investment in Israel) is UJIA’s innovative initiative that is changing traditional philanthropy in Israel by adding a layer of impact investment. Si3 uses a cutting-edge approach to drive social change in Israel by funding projects that provide high-value social impact and a financial return to strengthen vulnerable communities in Israel.

The Challenge

Traditional philanthropy is based on goodwill, emotional connection, and grants donated according to general policy, without generating a financial return. In recent years the understanding has developed that traditional philanthropy is neither effective nor scalable, and it will be challenging to find suitable solutions to severe social problems without informed and measurable investments.

The Opportunity

The Menomadin Foundation joined the Si3 investment committee, which invests in Israeli entrepreneurs, initiatives, and organizations that aim to create sustainable, measurable, and effective social impact, alongside a financial return. Si3 has invested in tens of social impact projects in areas like urban regeneration, micro-finance, strengthening the Ethiopian, Bedouin, Ultra-Orthodox communities, and children with disabilities.
